What should you feed
your pet piranhas?Piranha feeding is
not extremely complicated. The red belly piranha for example is a meat eater,
so meat-like products should be a huge part of their diet.
* Frozen fish/seafood
like cod, salmon, tuna, catfish, shrimps, krill, mussels and squid.
* Pellet food such as
Hikari Gold or Hikari Cichlid Bio Gold.
* Pinkie mice.
* Live feeders.
The general rule of
thumb is that juvenile piranhas should be fed 2-3 times per day, while adult
piranhas should be fed once every other day. Please make sure you visit my Web

The bigger the better
- The fish tank that is. Lots of people try to cram piranhas in smaller tanks
and wonder why they don't survive. 1. Determine the type of piranha you want to
get.
Piranhas are
freshwater aquarium fish and there are many different types of piranhas you can
choose from, so it's important that you do your own research. I can tell you
that the most popular one on the market is the Red Belly piranha (aka: Red
Bellied Piranha, Pygocentrus nattereri), so my suggestion is to start with
these charming little creatures if you are first starting out. 2. Piranha Tank
(Aquarium)
It is way more
awesome and fun to see pet piranhas in action in bigger, well decorated
aquariums, rather than seeing them crammed into smaller 20 to 40-gallon
aquariums. As for the number of piranhas to get, that's also a personal
preference. 3. Aquarium Supplies
Filtration system -
Absolute must for keeping your piranha healthy. Piranhas are filthy eaters and
require more filtration that other fish, so pick wisely. There are canister
filters, power filters, under gravel filters, inside box filters, wet/dry
filters and sponge filters. Power head - Good for extra water circulation which
piranhas love, but you may not need one if your filtration system gives you
enough water flow.
1. Choose the
location of the aquarium and set it up.
2. Rinse all the
aquarium equipment then install them. Any part of your equipment (filters,
power head, thermometer, etc.), that normally touch the water should also be
rinsed.
3. Fill up the
aquarium with water.
4. Dim the lighting.
As I mentioned before, piranhas are not fans of bright lights. Perfect
temperature for most piranhas.
5. Test the water.
Recommended levels for most piranhas:
a. pH level should be
between 6 - 7.5
b. Water hardness
(dGH): 4 - 18 °N
c. Recommended water
temperature: 24 - 29 °C ( 75.2 - 84.2 °F )
6. Cycle your
aquarium. Cycling involves growing bacteria in your filtration system before
you introduce your piranhas to it. http://www.piranha-fury.com/pfury/index.php?/topic/196087-cycling-101/
7. When the cycling
is complete, purchase your piranhas. Visit your local pet/aquarium store and
browse around. Please visit my Web site for more information on piranhas!
Aquarium lights -
Piranhas hate bright lights so try to keep the lighting to a minimum if
possible. Please make sure you
