Jimmy Bruno was born in
Philadelphia on July 22, 1953. Needless to say, guitar music was alive and well
in the Bruno home and having a famous guitar player for a dad offered the
motivation for Jimmy to eventually become a real jazz guitar virtuoso in every
sense of the word.
Jimmy Bruno began to play the
guitar at the age of 7. A hard-driving bebop jazz guitarist, Jimmy Bruno plays
consistently amazing solos in straight ahead settings. Jimmy Bruno's technical
command of the guitar is absolutely nothing short of amazing! Jazz guitar
legend Johnny Smith has commended Jimmy as one of the most exceptional jazz
guitar players he has ever heard. When Jimmy is playing solo jazz guitar by
himself, he reaches the same level as Joe Pass did when Joe was recording all
of his "Virtuoso" albums. Peabody Conservatory trained guitarist

Yelin continued his guitar
studies with DeGazio but now devoted himself entirely to jazz. By the time
Robert Yelin was 18 years old he was playing solo jazz guitar in restaurants
and by the time he was 20 he had decided to make a career out of music.
Starting in 1982, Robert became a professor at the University Of Colorado where
he taught the history of jazz and worked with the jazz guitar ensemble there.
The physical issues from these
illnesses brought his jazz guitar playing career to an end. Robert Yelin is a
unique figure in the jazz guitar world. As well as being a gifted player he has
one of the world's largest collections of jazz guitar audio and video
recordings. I immediately knew why Robert was described in jazz guitar circles
as a "guitar chordiologist"! Peabody Conservatory trained guitarist

While at college, he became
attracted to both jazz and traditional classical guitar. Jim Ferguson is
recognized as a prominent American jazz guitar authority. For a while Ferguson
studied guitar with the legendary Lenny Breau, ghost writing this extraordinary
guitarist's fingerstyle jazz column for Guitar Player Magazine. Jim currently
divides his time between freelance writing, college music composition, playing
jazz, teaching guitar lessons, and giving classical guitar concerts.
Jim Ferguson also continues to
publish new book/CDs on all the different aspects of playing jazz guitar. One
presents material on blues jazz chord progressions, another is on blues jazz
scales, while yet another is on blues jazz soloing. Peabody Conservatory
trained guitarist Steven Herron is an expert on jazz guitar instruction.
Charlie Christian was born on
July 29, 1916 in Bonham, Texas but grew up in Oklahoma City. Throughout the
early 1930s, Charlie Christian played guitar in his brother Edward's band
"The Jolly Jugglers". Christian became captivated with the electric
amplified guitar when he saw Eddie Durham, who played an early variation of the
electric instrument. Christian chose to explore the electric amplified guitar.
Christian began to introduce numerous pioneering ideas into his jazz improvisations.
Hammond was so amazed he encouraged his brother-in-law, band leader Benny
Goodman, to hear Christian. Christian was hired on the spot.
After playing at night with the
Goodman band, Christian would go on to play into the early hours of the morning
at Minton's Jazz Club in Harlem. Tragically the late nights and Christian's
love of the New York night life did not help his health. Peabody Conservatory
trained guitarist Steven Herron is an expert on jazz guitar instruction. Sign
